FROM THE DIRECTORDear Fellow Missionaries, We continue this month with the report of Fr. Gonzalo Ituarte, O.P. The first half of his message went out in the July newsletter. What an impressive job the Friars, Sisters, Deacons, and Laity are doing in southern Mexico. The Catholic faith is becoming ever deeper in the life and culture of the Mayan people. The many catechists and deacons attest to the devotion and love the people of Chiapas have for our Lord. Even as we think of them as third-world people, we learn their values of family and community are a witness to us. The feast of our patron, San Martin de Porres, this year falls on a Sunday. I will offer the traditional Triduum of Masses for all your intentions. Please join me in prayer on November 4, 5, and 6. The prayer petitions you send in will be on the altar of our Dominican House in Riverside for the Triduum and throughout the month of November. Also on the altar will be the names of your deceased loved ones. As I write this note, I've finished four weekends of preaching for the Missions. How beautiful God's people are! Welcome, hospitality, and generosity have been my experience at each parish. God's church is alive and well. Blessings, |
ALL SOULS' DAY REMEMBRANCE:November is the month for us to remember loved ones who have died. You are invited to send in their names, which will be placed on the altar. As you pray during November for your own deceased relatives and friends, please remember all the people for whom your fellow missionaries have asked for prayers. Enclosed you will find an All Souls slip for you to list the names of your departed loved ones.
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES FEAST DAY TRIDUUM:Three Masses will be offered on November 4, 5, and 6 for the petitions sent in by you. We honor our patron, San Martin, whose feast day is November 3. We ask you to join the Triduum with not only your own petitions but also those of your fellow missionaries. (Triduum on back page.) The enclosed St. Martin slip is for sending us your petitions.
FRIARS, SISTERS, DEACONS, AND LAITY: DOING GOD'S WORKBy Fr. Gonzalo Ituarte, O.P. Perhaps a few statistics will be helpful in looking at Missions San Jacinto and San Carlos (70,000 square kilometers). These will demonstrate the lively native community that exists and the tremendous work of our missionary friars, sisters, deacons, and laity....Continue >>> |
